BOO Baskets

BOO BASKETS

Let me just start off by saying that where I live in Southern California, it is still a solid 80-90 degrees outside pretty much every day. Sure, “summer is over” because school is back in session, but summer definitely is not over. So I understand how weird this post might seem because none of you are ready to admit that fall is (pretty much, technically) here. October is indeed, right around the corner though and I am absolutely ready for the fall. Mostly because hi I’m sweating, like…all the time right now and I’m super over that. But also, because I’m so excited for sweaters and chili and call me basic, but yes PSL.

Side note: for all the haters out there that don’t like Pumpkin Spice Lattes, or any variation of the form, and you think it’s “too sweet” or “too spicy” whatever…cut the pumps of pumpkin in half, and add in some vanilla or chai. Total game changer.

Ok back to it being October. I’m SO excited for Halloween. It’s for sure my favorite holiday, with Christmas being a close second. As you’ll get to learn, I love the holidays. I love the parties, dressing up, feeling festive, the food, and the all the crafting and DIY projects. That sounds super weird, but if you know me, you know. So despite it still being September, I say it’s never too early to let the spooky fun begin. Which is why I am sharing these super adorable baskets I threw together to “BOO” my neighbors.

Sadly, I’ve never lived in a neighborhood with lots of kids, until now. One neighborhood I lived in had a handful of kids, but never really got into the holiday spirit. So now that I’ve got kids of my own, with literally about 100 other kids on our street, we are jumping right in and going crazy on all the holiday fun.

I realize some people don’t even know what this whole “BOO” thing is, so let me explain it real quick. It’s basically like the “spooky/scary/ghostly” version of ding dong ditching. You throw together some goodies into a basket, some Halloween themed treats, maybe some mini wine bottles for your adult friends ;) Then you pick your neighbor victim and ding dong ditch them while leaving the treats at their doorstep. Then they find it, guess who did it to them, and have to keep the BOO train going. It’s a super fun way to get everyone into the Halloween spirit by spreading some love!

So for my baskets, I may or may not have gone a little overboard. That’s just how I roll, but also, I blame Target. Thank goodness for all of the Halloween finds in the dollar section right now, because I pretty much got everything I needed from right there, which made this very easy and very affordable. I found the cutest pumpkin decorating kits, “grow a ghost” kits, cat ears, and some Halloween themed paint kits, all for the kids. I even found the perfect sized baskets to hold all this stuff. In the Halloween section I grabbed some bubbles and spider rings, also extremely cheap.

Then, I made some ghost looking pretzel rods, and threw some mini wine bottles in there for the parents (or just for mom) because how else are we supposed to get this BOO shi* together without some wine, knowwhatimean? I’ve added a post here to show you how easy it was to make those adorable ghost pretzels!

Lastly, in your BOO baskets along with your treats and goodies, you’ll want to include two printables! One of the printables should say something along the lines of “We’ve been BOOed!” (once you get BOO’d, you’ll put the this on your front door so your neighbors know you’ve already been BOO’d). The other printable is the instructions on what to do next to keep the BOOs going. Luckily for you, I’ve designed a super cute printable that I’m giving to you all FOR FREE!

You can download the printables here: 8.5x11 version or the 5x7 version

If you use my printables, take pictures of your baskets, post them and tag me on Instagram @tiannafriend!! I can’t wait to see how you guys put them to use!

As always, have fun and happy haunting!
